The Land Rover Discovery 3 Is A Perfect Family 4X4

The Land Rover Discovery 3 is one of the few cars that have improved so much over the course of a generation. You wouldn’t find as many used examples as the Discovery owners rightly believe that no other car can match the combination of performance, practicality and comfort of the car they own. It was introduced in 2004 and it was an all-new Discovery with high-tech features and a wide range of pricing. There is no doubt that the old Discovery had something appealing about it but it was still way off the pace. The Discovery 3 had been built from a scratch and doesn’t rely on any advertisement to prove itself. Its quality, technology and design, all speak for themselves. Range Rover rolled a lot of money and spared no expense in order to build the best family 4×4 and was able to charge the premium prices. All of the Discovery 3 models from 2007 onwards had been equipped with the Land Rover Watch stolen vehicle tracking system.

Discovery 3 has a Range Rover front and the sides are inspired by the Free lander, which is a good combination. The Discovery 3 is modern, bold and distinctive and refreshes the brand’s styling without compromising on look and feel. It has asymmetrically styled tailgate and only one side of the car has an air intake. To boost practically there is a third row of seats in both the 2nd and 3rd rows which can be folded flat. This enables the Discovery to accommodate some serious amount of luggage. “Everything you see has been done for a reason. The priority was to give the passengers and driver a superb cabin environment with more headroom and greater comfort. It has big, deep glazing because that provides greater airiness and a better view”, said Geoff Upex, the design director. The Discovery 3 engine was an all new 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine.

Earlier Range Rover used to rely on BMW’s TD5 engine. The Land Rover Discovery 3’s diesel engine was developed by Jaguar in conjunction with Peugeot. This engine is built by compacted graphite iron (CGI) that makes it stronger, durable and light in weight. There is also an option for a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine but it is very thirsty on fuel. This 4.4litre is also by Jaguar and is enlarged version of the 4.2-litre V8 powering some of it models. Both engines have permanent four-wheel-drive. The petrol engine comes with a six speed automatic gear box while for the 2.7-litre diesel versions the automatic gearbox is optional. Even now the Land Rover Discovery 3 has a strong demand as a second-hand car therefore no screaming bargains. The 04 plate entry-level model with 2.7-litre diesel engine still goes for around 12,000 GBP and top of the range HSE trim level can cost as much as 18,000 GBP.
