The VZ was launched in 2004, with an engine specification of 3.6-litre, Alloytec V6 engine that has power churning capacity of 235 to 255 hp. Its more advanced version offered greater power, responsiveness and fuel efficiency in comparison to previous engine fixtures of ECOTEC V6.

The VZ Commodore was succeeded by VE, which marked the beginning of the fourth generation in the range of Commodore models. Its VE model was the first to be designed, developed and manufactured individually by Holden LTD in Australia.
