Technical Specs and Overview of the Citroen C4

on

Since it hit the market in autumn 2004, the Citroen C4 had strongly held its place in the new and used car market. With loads to offer a buyer looking for a used Citroen, with a nice damped ride and excellent body roll through corners, it really does deliver a cushioned and refined ride, a Citroen trademark.

A used Citroen C4 is elegant, well detailed and oozes French style, with excellent diesel engines, broad seats, excellent visibility and strong sturdy materials that wouldn’t look out of place in a prestige car. Don’t forget the quirky steering wheel where the wheel turns but the centre of the wheel stayed in its place, making access to the wheel mounted controls easier to use. The high mounted LCD instrument display with details of the speed, engine temperature, trip details and fuel levels on display are very useful. Available in a coupe and hatchback version the C4 came with a good range of petrol and diesel engines and various trims. Starting off the petrol engines is the 1.4i 16v with 90bhp, followed by the 1.6i 16v 110bhp, then the 2.0i 16v 138bhp VTR and finally the 2.0i 16v 180bhp VTS. In the diesel engine you can choose to have your used Citroen in either a 1.6HDi with 92bhp, a 1.6HDi with 110bhp and finally a 2.0HDi with 138bhp.

If looking for a used Citroen C4 coupe, you would happily find adequate boot space with a huge 314L capacity, and in the hatch version a respectable 320L is still handy. You could even have the option to have an air conditioned glove box! Handy for keeping your drinks cool on a warm day.

Although the engines are the same on both versions of the used Citroen C4, the interior trims do differ. In the coupe models there are 4 trim levels, starting with the entry level VT where you can get a reasonable spec, with the multi-function steering wheel, translucent display, and cruise control with speed limiter, one touch electric front windows, a multi-function trip computer, CD / stereo and 6 airbags. Following on, the next model is the VTR which had all of the above plus air conditioning with a built in air freshener, a leather steering wheel, 16″ alloy wheels and front fog lights. Third in the trim levels on the used Citroën C4 is the VTR+ which then gave you all the above plus automatic digital dual zone air conditioning with the built in air freshener, automatic windscreen wipers, automatic headlamps, auto dipping rear view mirror and 17″ alloy wheels, this also comes with body coloured door handles!

Finally for the Citroen coupe the top trim is the VTS, which comes with all the above plus a rear spoiler, laminated side windows, xenon directional headlamps, rear parking sensors( front as an extra option), a leather steering wheel and a 5 disk auto changer CD player. There is certainly a used citroen c4 for all tastes and budgets.

In the pre-2010 hatchback models the interior trims are pretty much the same as the coupe version but come with different trim names! With the entry level called the LX, followed by the SX, VTR+ and finally top of the range Exclusive. The used Citroen C4 is one of the first cars that shows that Citroen have rediscovered its flair for innovative design, all models are awarded 5 star NCAP, making it top in its class, and it has even been given an award from the security experts “Thatcham” for its laminated glass, which is tough enough to stop a determined thief from breaking in to the vehicle for 30 seconds, making it a safe investment when buying your used citroen!

Revisions were made in 2008 giving the Citroen C4 a sharper front end, up graded cabin and more efficient engines, adding the 1.6 VTi with 120bhp and the 1.6THP (turbo high pressure)with 150bhpand a 6 speed gear box. In today’s used car market the latest edition of the Citroen C4 is only available in the hatchback version and comes again with a great new look and loads of cool added extras and options.

Post 2010 models of the used Citroen C4 come with 3 petrol engines co-developed with BMW, the 1.4 VTi which will give you 95bhp, the 1.6 VTi with 120bhp and finally the 1.6 THP with a respectable 155bhp. Diesel engines come again in 3 options starting with the 1.6HDi 90bhp, 1.6HDi 110bhp and the 2.0HDi, 6 speed gear box with 150bhp,and only 3 trim levels- VTR, VTR+ and Exclusive, all coming with ESP, cruise control, air conditioning, electric door mirrors, daytime running lights and electric windows. Citroen have also kept one step ahead and in keeping with the demand for economical new and used cars, have come up with the 1.6 E-HDi, a diesel hybrid engine which emits only 109g/km Co2, with an excellent stop/start system, which is responsive and unlike many other car makers attempts, this one actually works and well!

The new models have a huge 408L boot, the best in its class and now come with double insulation on the windscreen and thicker glass, meaning noise is at an absolute minimum and making your used Citroen a pleasant place to be. Top that off with the option of massaging front chairs (exclusive trim only), the ability to choose different shades of colour for the instrument dials, and even the sound that the indicators make this really is a driver’s car. Also not to be beaten on safety the Citroen C4 now comes with the E-touch Service, a system where if you breakdown or have an accident, you simply push the button and it will call the accident recovery or emergency services and they will accurately locate the vehicle! Outstanding for Used Citroen if you ask me! So if you are in the market for a used car, why not consider a used Citroen C4?
