Fortuner is a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) sold in the Indian market. It is manufactured by Toyota. The company sells one version of the SUV – Toyota Fortuner 3.0 MT. It is sold at the ex-showroom (New Delhi) price of Rs. 19.3 lakh.

Fortuner has an overall length of 4695 mm, an overall width of 1840 mm and an overall height of 1850 mm. The SUV has a wheelbase of 2750 mm. It has a ground clearance of 225 mm, and a curb weight of 2720 kg. The 5 door car has seating capacity for 7 persons. The 2982 cc powerful engine of Fortuner offers a maximum power of 286PS @3600rpm and maximum torque of 650Nm @1600rpm. The vehicle offers a mileage of 10.8 km/liter on highways, 8 km/liter on city roads and overall it offers a mileage of 8.56 km/liter.

Fortuner has many features like an air conditioner, power door locks, power steering, traction control, immobilizer, cup holders, folding rear-seat, rear wash wiper, alloy wheels, tubeless tires, central locking, steering adjustment, front fog lights, rear defroster, leather seats, and power seats. The SUV has safety features like an anti-lock braking system, driver air-bags, and passenger air-bags. FM radio and CD player are entertainment features of Fortuner. The SUV is sold in the Indian market in the following colors – grey mica metallic, super white, light blue metallic, silver mica metallic and black mica.

Toyota Fortuner was first launched in 2005. Toyota has sold 250,000 units of Fortuner in more than 60 countries since then. The SUV was launched in India in August 2009. The vehicle is assembled at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi near Bangalore. Fortuner has been a huge success in India. Its competition in the market includes Ford Endeavor, Honda CRV, Chevrolet Captiva, and Mitsubishi Pajero. Toyota had received 7000 bookings in the month of its launch itself. The company had to stop looking for some time due to the heavy demand for the car.

The world’s largest carmaker by volume, Toyota sells other vehicles like sports utility vehicle Innova, sedan Corolla Altis, Camry, hybrid car Prius, and Land Cruiser in India. Corolla Altis and Innova have been fairly successful in the country. The company is planning to launch a small car in India.
