Lamborghini Aventador Power on Four Wheels

Automobili Lamborghini is an Italian automaker who specialises in sport cars. After the establishment in 1963, varieties of sports cars have come out of their stable. The company changed hands many times and came to the Volkswagen group in 1998. The Lamborghini vehicles are produced at their Sant’Agata Bolognese facility. Lamborghini Aventador is their flagship vehicle named after a bull which fought and died in a ring in Saragossa in 1993.

Lamborghini Aventador is a two seater, two door sports car revealed in February 2011 at the Geneva motor show. The body of Aventador LP 700-4 is based on the limited edition Reventon. It uses the famous V12 engine which has 6498 cc volume, 690 bhp power and 690 NM torque giving a fuel economy of 6.3 kmpl (combined economy of 16 litres/100 km). It takes only two seconds to shift from 0-100 kmph speed attaining a maximum speed of 350 to 370 kmph. A second generation Aventador Roadster was announced in November 2012.

To withstand the tough conditions, the frame is made of carbon fibre monocoque with Aluminium front and rear frames. Carbon fibre is used for engine bonnet, the rear spoiler and the side air inlets.

Aluminium is used for front bonnet, fenders and doors. The roof is made in 2 panels of 6 kg weight each and can be stored in the front luggage compartment. External rear view mirrors are electrically adjustable and foldable.

In the cabin, instead of a conventional instrument cluster, a TFT display with well arranged switches is located at the centre. Safety features include ABS, dual airbags, side air bags and knee airbags. The brakes are of dual circuit breaker system with vacuum boost. Front tyres are R19€ and rear tyres are R20€ size. The suspension has horizontal mono-tube damper with push rod system. The transmission is seven speed semi-automatic and the clutch is dry double plate type having 235 mm diameter.

The physical dimensions of the Adventador are 4780 mm length, 2030 mm width, 1136 mm height and 2700 mm wheel base with a kerb weight of 1625 kg. A dream liner edition of the Aventador came out in 2012 with white and blue body colours. Aventador J version with a reduced weight of 1575 kg, omitting AC and radio was announced in 2013 and only one car was made in this series. Aventador LP 720-4, the 50th anniversary edition, announced in 2013, has a more powerful 710 bhp engine.

The approximate price for the Aventador LP-4 in Rupees is 369 lakhs and that for the Roadster is Rs. 477 lakhs. The Ferrari FF, the Rolls Royce Wraith and the Rolls Royce Phantom II are similar cars in this price range.
