Porsche Cayman Is A Cross Between A 911 And A Boxster

on

The Porsche Cayman by far is a very sexy looking Porsche mind you it is not every bodies cup of tea however its a cross between a 911 and a Boxster. The Cayman is most definitely a two seater car because the engine is in exactly the place where the back seats would normally be this enables the Cayman to have a very manageable weight distribution which only adds to the handling abilities of this sports car. However with the engine in the middle of the car this makes getting to it not that easy and like the Porsche Boxster the only real way is by removing an obscene amount of interior panels or try and do it from underneath the car.

The rear of the car is very long and in that space Porsche have managed to put a pretty generous luggage compartment and like the 911 and Boxster there is ample room in the front of the car under what would be the bonnet. The Cayman can be easily used as an every day car because of its size and this a trait that has always been associated with Porsche. Once again Porsche have gone with the fastback roof and a curvaceous rear wings. Likewise on the Cayman there is a rear wing that kicks into life at 74mph this is just like the 911 and Boxster also.

The Cayman has a 3.4 litre engine which has the cylinders of a 911 and the crank of a Boxster. The 911 has either a 3.6 litre engine or a 3.8 litre engine where as the Boxster only has a much smaller 3.2 litre. The funny thing I have found with modern day Porsche’s is that even though they got rid of the air cooled engines they have still managed to get the same sound of the massive fans you use to hear sort of like a breathy whine which is just a fantastic noise.

The Caymen is bit of a mix match of the 911 and the Boxster there is nothing really new that isn’t on the Boxster or on the 911 however the structure of the Cayman is almost two and half times stiffer than the Boxster and well that is only due to the fact it is a Boxster that has a tin roof. So because of the stiffness of the Caymen this makes setting up the suspension to a much more sportier setting and this is just something that adds to the driving experience it makes you feel a little bit closer to the road the car seems a lot more focused and it is a pleasure to drive!

The Porsche Caymen is quick they is no questioning that it can get up to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds and the top speed of 170 mph. There are some pretty awesome extras that Porsche can offer when you buy a Caymen and that is the PASM which is Porsche Active Suspension Management however even if you decided not to have this fitted the Cayman still handles perfectly unlike the 911’s that needed the PASM. With the PASM fitted it drops the Cayman by 10mm and if you hit the sport mode it tightens the dampers and well it just feels fantastic but that’s just the start you can have a stop watch fitted as well so you can time your hot laps now that is hitting the market with a hammer!.

So in summary the Porsche Cayman is a fine example of what a rigid and tin top body shelled Porsche’s are capable of. If you buy the Cayman S then you will be buying a package that has every advantage that Porsche can offer and yet I just could not see any disadvantages! The Cayman uses a combination of parts from the other Porsche’s and so is not that expensive to produce or even to develop but it is going to produce some amazing well deserved profits for the Porsche the Cayman can onbe described as a truly fantastic sports car.
