The Mercedes has a long history that dates back to the late 1800’s when two men, who never met, had a dream. Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler were these two men. Benz built his first four-wheeler named Victoria in the late 1800’s followed by the Benz Velo a year later, which was considered the first real production car.

Daimler built the horseless carriage in the late 1800’s and eventually entered into a partnership with Wilhelm Maybach, who created a small engine to be used in the horseless carriage. These two formed a company called DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellshaft) which continued to grow and prosper. Unfortunately, Daimler died in 1900 which happened to be the year they produced a car for a man named Emil Jellinek who decided to name it after his daughter, Mercedes. The company was left in the care of Maybach.

Both DMG and Benz companies went through many tough times, even World War II but eventually the two came to an agreement and merged in 1926 while keeping their own identities for many years. They chose an emblem for the merger which consisted of a three pointed star with a laurel wreath around it. On top was the word Mercedes and at the bottom was the word Benz. This proved to be a very profitable merger for both companies. Today, they are known for having some of the most prestigious cars on the market, which is another reason why Mercedes car leasing is so popular.
